Finally, after years of absence, one of my favourite metal bands returns once more. Burnt By The Sun, the band that opened my eyes years ago, has once again reunited, with all original members (except one guitarist) and are here to deliver us their Heart Of Darkness. Time for some fine tunes!

Burnt By The Sun has for me always been the perfect example of how versatile yet basic hardcore should sound like. Influences of metal and grind are apparent, but the main style is definitely hardcore/metal. When both their vocalist and drummer (some man named Dave Witte who has an awesome reputation with shit like Municipal Waste, Human Remains, Atomsmasher, Discordance Axis) left years ago that was about the end of the band. Both have such trademark sounds, they are severely needed for this band to succeed. Luckily here they are once more, with a record that in my eyes mostly resembles their debut full length Soundtrack To The Personal Revolution. Raw, basic, yet highly intense and exhilarating. It didn’t take long for me to play this record about twenty times and to be headbanging and air-guitaring in my room.

 

The formula this band picked up so many years ago is still highly effective, this record will end up high in my year-list for sure. The only downside is that this is also their definitive record, after this there will be a tour and then they’re done (so they say, I for one hope not). So, I will most likely be at two or three of their European shows, just so I can be at ease with it a bit more. If you like this album ánd you’re reasonably smart, I suggest you do the same before another legend goes up in flames. But first pick up Heart Of Darkness and thrash your room to it!
